Era Systems Corporation, an SRA subsidiary, is delivering tomorrow's technology today to help air navigation service providers (ANSPs) transform their surveillance capabilities on the ground and in the air. Era provides a spectrum of products and solutions for the world’s leading civilian and military Air Traffic Management (ATM) organizations. Using next-generation technologies, we modernize ATM surveillance while innovating critical airport functions like revenue, noise and surface management.

From the tower to the gate and many points in between, Era helps improve safety in the air and on the ground while equipping airports with the tools they need to manage daily operations. Using multilateration (MLAT) and Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) surveillance technologies, we are able to precisely track aircraft and vehicle movement locally and over wide areas. Using this information, ANSPs can make informed decisions about their environment, which leads to safer and more profitable operations.

Highlights of our projects include:

  • Improved safety at Copenhagen Airport using a multi-sensor approach to surveillance that integrated MLAT and ADS-B technologies with existing radar sources. Using Era's MSS and Squid products, the airport was able to obtain a single view of aircraft and vehicle movements.
  • Collaborated with the North China Air Traffic Management Bureau (NCATMB) to improve airport ground surveillance at one of the world's busiest airports. Using MSS by Era, Beijing Capital International Airport can monitor parallel runways and surfaces with the same network of sensors at lower costs and greater reliability than traditional radar.
  • Developed a solution for Ostrava airport, the third largest in the Czech Republic, to dramatically improve their radar data reliability. Due to the mountainous terrain surrounding the region, the nearest Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR) could not provide coverage below 1000m, which created serious safety concerns about the lack of terminal area surveillance. With MSS by Era, the airport enjoys robust wide area surveillance capabilities at a fraction of the cost of SSR.
  • Enhanced surface control and safety at Amsterdam's Schiphol International Airport, which has significant visibility challenges due to their position below sea level. Using Squid by Era, the airport can accurately track all vehicles and gain a complete view of the entire airport surface.
